Open to all Scout groups – everyone is welcome, from beginners to experienced shooters. We also offer taster sessions.

What is Shackleton Rifle Club?

Shackleton Rifle Club is a Scout-run shooting activity open to all young people and adult volunteers in the area. Based at Gordon Hall in Southampton, the club provides a safe, friendly environment to learn and develop target shooting skills. Sessions are focused on improving marksmanship, encouraging discipline, and building confidence through structured practice and competitions.

Who can attend?

The club is open to all Scout sections and leaders, regardless of experience level. Whether you’re looking to try air rifle shooting for the first time or want to improve your aim for competitions, the sessions are designed to suit everyone.

Instruction and supervision

Sessions are led by a team of qualified and experienced instructors, including:

  • Trevor Draper – County Coach
  • Chris Draper – Club Instructor
  • James Neilson – YPS Tutor
  • Paul Bridges – YPS Tutor

They provide guidance on shooting technique, safety procedures, and preparation for competition.

Competitions and progression

Shackleton Rifle Club regularly enters regional Scout shooting competitions, typically taking part in at least three events each year. Members have the opportunity to track their progress and represent their group in formal events, supported by experienced coaches.

Cost: £2 per session (covers pellets, equipment use, and maintenance)

How to join

There’s no need to book – just turn up on a session night. First-time attendees will receive a safety briefing before taking part. If you have any questions, or want to check session availability, contact the group directly here.
